Bid for Summer Games 2028

In 2023 the Town of Rocky Mountain House and Clearwater County submitted a bid to host the 2026 Alberta Summer Games. Unfortunately, we were unsuccessful in the application.

The debrief provided by the Alberta Tourism and Sport office regarding our bid included the following comments:

  • Sport facility deficiencies:
  • Athletics - shale track rather than synthetic. Also lacking the throwing areas
  • Swimming - only a 5-lane indoor pool versus the recommended 6 lanes.
Also available spectator seating was 100 rather than suggested 300
  • Beach Volleyball - no courts available
Rugby - 2 fields exist but both need upgrading
  • Food centre was to be one arena dry pad. It is noted that for 2028, Lacrosse now has male and female that would require use of both arena dry pads therefore an alternative site for the food centre would need to be determined.
  • It was also noted that during the tour visitation, greater clarity was needed as to where all the sports and other venue requirements would take place.

Based on this information, considerable work would need to be done on our facilities, or a partner community would be needed to submit a possible joint bid to host the games.

If Council wishes to move forward with the process to submit another bid to host the 2028 Alberta Summer Games, the information that was gathered for the 2026 bid is available to use as a template for a future bid. Administration would recommend reaching out to Clearwater County to ascertain their interest in joining together to submit a bid. A Bid committee would need to be established as well.

Administration has attached the Bid Guidelines for the 2028 Alberta Summer Games for information.

Election October 2025

Who is running for Mayor?

Who is running for Councillor?

Who are they?  What are they about.  How would/did vote on past issues.

How are Taxes Collected

Yes, through Property Taxes, but also through the Utility Companies

We already complain and hate the Utility Companies.  Town Council controls how much extra we pay for our Utilities through deciding the percentage that is charged on your bills (Franchise Fees).   Additionally garbage/recycling as well as sewer/water is on a cost recovery basis.  In the end there is ONLY one tax payer .
